Every project I start is a journey. Some days, it works out; others, it’s a learning experience. I realize it’s the end of March, but since I didn’t do one in February, it still seems appropriate.
Work/ Business Projects in progress include the novel, ‘Dear Mate.’ I’ve nearly completed the first draft and given myself a little grace with two extra weeks before I start editing the first draft of AFWLA (A Four-Way Love Affair). I’ve nearly a second business goal of doubling my e-mail list twice in two months which is a massive win.
Other Projects I’ve been working on include participating in Finish it February for my crafty projects. The idea is to decide what to do with UFOs (unfinished objects). Either frog them or complete them. I didn’t have many, but here we go.

- I started a poncho almost seven years ago, and it had huge mistakes. I decided to rip it out, but while rewinding the yarn, I fell in love with the project again and decided to have a redo. I wrote a new pattern and sat down to work on it, and with the leftover yarn, I’m working on a matching hood/cowl. This item has become my favorite winter coat.
- Homegirl sweater: This is my first crochet sweater, and I enjoy the process. As of my writing this, I’ve finished the front, back, and most of one arm. I can’t wait to see this come together.
- Sock! I always have a pair of socks on the needles. This pair has been restarted so many times to create socks that fit me well, but finally, I’m nearing completion.
- Poppy cowl: not my pattern, but I wanted to return to my roots with some hand-dyed recycled silk from my now-closed shop, The Fiber of My Being.
- Sophie’s Universe – This project let me down. As beautiful as it is, I’ve 14 rows to complete and need 14 more balls of yarn as one ball of Sheeples Stonewash XL is no longer making it around the blanket. To be fair, I did not swatch for this project, and after swatching for the Homegirl Sweater, I realized I’m a criminally loose crocheter, which I find strange as my knitting is tight, and I usually have to use larger needles. However, this project is topping all the others in price, and I will take my time ordering the yarn.
- Tartan blanket: Miss Sally bought me this kit to make for Mr. V. I love that it doesn’t have fringe. I know, I know many people love fringe, pompoms, and tassels. They can look cute, but I don’t care for them because of the extra handling those decorations need. Every time I’ve put tassels or fringe in the wash, it’s been a nightmare. I noticed a huge mistake in this project, so I tore it from ninety-three rows to Thirteen.
I took it upon myself to separate the larger projects I’d like to work on into bags ready to go as I finish one and start another. I have seven or eight large sweater/cardigan projects I would like to complete and two blankets (the Sophie and the Tartan). I want to keep smaller projects like socks, hats, and cowls in the rotation, but I don’t choose them beforehand to go stash diving and make it fun.
