Introduction to Scrivener
Scrivener is an award-winning writing platform that helps you organize, store and format your content. It enables you to organize your ideas, format your content, and collaborate with other writers. It’s designed for all types of writers, from novelists to academics to students.
The platform is available for Mac and Windows users, and it’s straightforward to use. With a few clicks, you can easily create outlines, structure your work, and format your content in a variety of styles. Plus, it’s incredibly affordable at 59 dollars for a lifetime. This isn’t a subscription service. It costs 59 dollars for the program.
What most people don’t realize or utilize is that Scrivener is much more than a word processor. It has a robust search feature that puts my windows searches to shame. In fact, I’ve had the program for years and didn’t realize what this piece of software could do. You don’t know what you don’t know, and I was intrigued by a Scrivener Class ad by Joseph Michael, so I signed up for the zoom presentation. What I expected was to learn a few new tweaks to add to my writing repertoire. What I found was that I was using probably a tenth of what the software was capable of. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Learn Scrivener Fast Course to see what else I could use Scrivener for.

Benefits of Using Scrivener
Scrivener offers a wide range of benefits for writers. Here are just a few of the reasons why you should consider using Scrivener to supercharge your writing:
- Organization: Scrivener makes organizing your ideas and structuring your work easy. You can easily create outlines, store notes, and keep track of your progress.
- Formatting: Scrivener makes it easy to format your content in various styles. You can use the built-in templates or create your own.
- Accessibility: Scrivener is available for both Mac and Windows users and even iOS, and you can access it from any device (android capability is in the works). So you can easily pick up where you left off and continue working.
Scrivener Formatting and Organization Tools
Scrivener makes it easy to organize and format your content. Here are some of the great formatting and organization tools that Scrivener provides:
- Outline view: Scrivener offers an intuitive outline view that lets you quickly structure your work. You can easily create outlines, store notes, and keep track of your progress.
- Formatting options: Scrivener makes it easy to format your content in a variety of styles. You can use the built-in templates or create your own.
- Corkboard view: Scrivener offers a corkboard view that lets you quickly rearrange and reorganize your content. You can drag and drop your ideas and promptly restructure your work.
- Split-screen view: Scrivener offers a split-screen view that lets you easily compare and contrast two documents. This is great for editing and revising your work. A function also allows you to split your screens even more for up to four if you require it.
- Powerful search engine: Scrivener has a powerful search engine that can be used for more than just writing. I use it as a cookbook, digital knitting, and crochet pattern binder for all my patterns. The list view is fantastic for sorting documents by keywords, meta tags, labels, and status. There are many tools to filter and search your files—no more going through each pattern or recipe to find the right one.

Scrivener Integrations and Automation
Scrivener makes it easy to integrate with other platforms and automate your work. Here are some of the incredible integrations and automation tools that Scrivener provides:
- Integrations: Scrivener integrates with various platforms, including Google Drive, Dropbox, Evernote, and more. This makes it easy to transfer and share your work. If you are a visual worker and like to mind-map, there is a product called Scapple by the same company(literature and latte) that integrates directly with Scrivener. I use it to create all the scenes of my story then I can select and drag and drop it right into my storyboard folder in Scrivener. The bookmark area of each document makes it easy to drag and drop website links into your document. Since I often have internet outages where I live, it’s better to grab the article with OneNote and make it a pdf which I can drop into my research files.
- Automation: Scrivener makes it easy to automate your work. You can set up automatic backups, export your documents in various formats, and more. I always suggest you back up your work.
- Collaboration: This is where Scrivener needs to catch up on other web applications like google docs. There are no collaboration features at this time. It works because I can always export to a word doc for an editor and then import it back in. Also, I live in an area where the internet can go out frequently. I love that I can use Scrivener without an internet connection. If they added real-time collaboration and made the program browser-based or internet connection-dependent, it would be less helpful for my needs.

Other Scrivener Features
Scrivener makes it easy to collaborate with other writers. Here are some of the great collaboration features that Scrivener provides:

- Commenting: Scrivener makes it easy to add comments to documents. I use this feature when editing to find what needs to change and remind myself of the changes needed for each scene.
- Sharing: Scrivener makes it easy to share documents in different formats. Export the document in the file type needed, and you can easily share documents via email, Dropbox, and more.
