A Trip to Remember – Chapter 11 Taking a Moment to Breathe

Exploring Relationships, Love, and Life

It was late, and Reine stood on the deck, letting the salty sea mist hit her. It was refreshing and chilling at the same time. She had finished the bottle of liquor, and the others had long gone to bed. “I thought I might find you here.”

Reine turned at the voice. Rafi stood behind her with a towel. “Tonight was… hard. I don’t particularly like getting angry.” She said. Rafi nodded, putting the towel around her shoulders and tugging her into a hug.

“Come on,” He said, “You’ll catch a cold here.”

Reine nodded and allowed him to lead her back to her cabin. She was admittedly drunk. So when Rafi entered with her. She wasn’t sure what he had in mind. “We’re getting a shower. You are chilled to the bone, but you probably don’t realize it because of the liquor.” The numbness she had been feeling was starting to give way to goosebumps.

Reine looked at him curiously. Part of her wanted to do as he said. But what was he doing?

“I’m not taking advantage of the situation,” He explained, “I’m just taking care of you because everyone needs it sometimes.”

“OK,” Reine said as she walked into the bathroom and took off her wet clothing. As she stepped into the water, Rafi walked into the bathroom. Thankfully, he had put a towel around his waist. “What are you doing?”

“I got chilled too,” He explained. “And it’s not like I haven’t seen you already. I am a guy. I looked.” She blushed furiously at his words as he stepped in the shower and picked up her shampoo. “Would you like me to wash your hair?”

Reine nodded. He said we, even if she hadn’t caught it right away. She couldn’t remember the last time anyone washed her hair. She had to admit it felt nice, and she was warming up too. In her inebriated state, her mind started going places it shouldn’t. She had always thought Rafi was good-looking. Getting to see him up close and personal was invigorating in its own way.

But the hot water relaxed her, and she was feeling so tired. “Time to get out,” Rafi said as he shut off the water. He grabbed a towel. As she stepped out, she realized he had placed her favorite pajamas on the counter. So she quickly slipped into them.

He stepped out of the shower after he dried himself, replacing the wet towel around his waist with a dry one. Reine realized he was trying to ensure she felt comfortable. They walked into the bedroom together, and he opened the mini-fridge, pulling out a bottle of water. “Drink this. You know you’ll need it.”

Reine smiled. She knew he was right. Nothing worse than a hangover dehydration headache. As she downed the water, he slipped back into his boxers. When he took the empty bottle from her, she yawned so hard it brought tears to her eyes. “Bedtime,” Rafi said.

She walked over to the bed and climbed in, pulling the covers over her. Rafi slipped in beside her. “I thought you could use a cuddle. But if you want me to leave, that’s all right too.”

Reine didn’t want him to leave. So she scooted over and put an arm around his waist as she laid her head on his shoulder. Assuming he should stay, he slipped his arm around her and pulled up the covers over them both.
