The next morning the Islanders were up early. It was prom day. This was probably the most important day of all. After all, the public based the winners on what they said during the speech part of prom day. Then there was shopping for the perfect outfit. So when Rian got to the kitchen, the buzz didn’t surprise her. Some islanders were even asking each other to the prom, which Rian thought was cute. But it’s not like they needed to. After all, they were already in their couples.
“Rian?” Rafi stood, looking at her, smiling. “Would you come to the prom with me?”
Rian rolled her eyes, playfully, “Of course, you melt.”
Just then, Iona got a text. “Girls, we’ve got to go. It’s shopping time.” The girls walked into the dress shop.
“Shut the front door!” Viv said, shock as she looked around. Iona and Viv took off immediately, bouncing ideas off each other as they riffled through the dresses.
Rian looked over to see AJ looking lost. “You want some help, babes?”
“Could you?” she asked.
Rian smiled. “Of course.”
“You are the best!” AJ grabbed Rian’s hand, “Let’s go.”
Rian held a powder blue dress up. “Oh, my god. This one.”
“Really?” AJ asked, unconvinced.
“Just try it.” She replied. “It’s pretty and super cute like you.”
Rian waited outside the dressing booth nervously. She wasn’t sure if she should have insisted on a dress, but… AJ burst out the door. Before Rian could even look at her, she was crushing her with a hug. “It’s great! I love it!”
“Stand back so I can see,” Rian said.
AJ stepped away, twirled. “I wasn’t sure because this is a dress but feels fine. It doesn’t confine me, and this ruffle is too cute.”
“Tai will be speechless,” Rian said. “Now that I’ve found mine, I’m gonna go see what Iona found.”
Rian made a couple of selections and headed to the dressing room. “Rian, are you in there?” Viv asked.
“Yea, hun, everything alright?” Rian thought Viv seemed a bit upset on the ride to the shop.
“Yea… no… I’m just silly.” Viv sighed.
“You wanna tell me, anyway?” Rian said, stepping out of the booth.
“It’s just the guys were asking their girls to the prom and… Seb.” She trailed off.
“Seb didn’t ask you,” Rian said softly.
Viv nodded. “I know it’s silly. He’s not exactly the romantic type, but…”
“You felt left out,” Rian said. Viv nodded. “You know, he might have felt a bit self-conscious about it. You are the more extroverted of the two of you, and this is the 21 century. There’s no reason you can’t ask him.”
Viv’s eyes widened. “I never even thought of that. You are completely right. I’ll ask him when I get back.” Her gaze flitted to the dresses Rian still had in her arms. “Did you pick something?”
Rian smiled. “Yep.”
“You’re not gonna tell me which one are you?” Viv teased.
“Nope,” Rian smirked.
