I think my favorite happy ending is from my childhood called The Little Duck by Judith Dunn. My Grandmother, who wasn’t really my Grandmother but my step-grandmother AKA Gam as we called her. But I digress. She was my Grandmother in every way that mattered.
Gam saw a young child who loved to read and promptly signed up for The Best Book Club Ever. That was how I came into possession of The Little Duck. It’s a cute little story of a boy who finds a duck egg in the grass near a pond and how he incubates the egg, and the friendship he has with the little duck.
The duck grows up and finds his own way in the world, as does the boy, but they remain friends. From what I saw online, Disney made a short film from it, which I haven’t seen. It was my favorite as a young child and still is today for a happily ever after story.
The picture above is the same book I had. I still have it hidden somewhere. It’s a little beat up. The staples holding together are rusted, and the paper is almost wholly yellowed after forty-four years. Finding this photo on eBay saved me from having to mess with it.
I’m curious about what your favorite happy ending book is. Let me know in the comments.
