What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research…

Usually most of my research is done on Google. However, if you asked Mr. V…

I’ve been known to ask him for help at times. Especially when writing any action scene, be it a fight, dance, or even… sex. I want to be sure that whatever I’m writing is actually within the realm of possibly happening.

We don’t need to be contortionists to do an Argentinean tango or get out of a choke hold, but understanding where the body is at and how it moves makes it easier to write those scenes. I will not call any book out in particular but one of my pet peeves is that an author that writes something and it seems they have no knowledge of basic anatomy.

I’ve read a lot of Otome and romance novels and some of the worst offenders have had excellent stories that in all honestly… didn’t need a sex scene. The couple could have left it at a kiss and it took nothing away from the story itself. Rather than a full sex scene that is badly written, which both pulls you from immersion and changes the quality of the story.

But I digress that one should be under grammar usage and pet peeves (which is an upcoming post). So yea probably the craziest things I do for research is ask Mr. V for some help with physical scenes to ensure the validity of what I’m writing.

I’m curious. What has been your craziest search? How far will you go for research? Please comment inquiring minds want to know.
