People often ask me how I stay inspired. It made me curious because I understand the feeling of being inspired. But I’ve never really put that feeling into words. So off to the Oxford dictionary I went.
Inspiration: The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially something creative.
Great job Oxford, that does describe it well.
I am mentally stimulated from the moment I have a sip of coffee. I read. I look at photography. But most of all I am a curious person. That person who asks a lot of what if questions. I’m constantly curious about things.
Curiosity is a human drive that promotes learning, exploration, decision-making and social interaction. Following curiosity can bring you to some interesting places. The human psyche is fascinating.
Personally I have never been very good at being passively entertained. I must be doing something. Some call it being fidgety. When I look picture I wonder about what is the story behind it, I’ve also been know to make my own story . Actively researching and learning is another way I spend my down time. I’ve been known to get up during a movie and wash down the walls of the room… I needed to move. I can’t sit still during passive entertainment. Now I usually bring knitting if I know I’m going to be expected to sit and socialize or be entertained. Hands must be moving.
But how do you get anything done? People are very good at going into something and then the next shiny thing takes their interest or it gets hard and then things are left half . I had admit that happened with some of my earlier fan-fiction but since I’ve taken a vow to finish it. I’ve also scheduled when I will do that.
The most important thing that I’ve learned as a fanatically curious person is this : “Falling down rabbit holes can be riveting and time consuming. You must temper that with that schedule that keeps you on task to remain productive.”
