A Day in the Life of a Writer

Exploring Relationships, Love, and Life

What my days really look like vs what I want my days to look like. In an ideal world my morning would never ever start late. I tried not to snicker as I wrote that but I couldn’t help it. Quite frankly every morning has started late recently. My own fault really for staying up so late. Even as I type this it’s midnight. I should be in bed so I can wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6 am like my schedule says… but I digress.

So lets move on shall we? The way I wish my mornings would start. I would like to wake up at 6am so I have time to get coffee and do some writing for a few hours before Mr. V wakes up. It’s quiet and less interruptions. Then I would make my way to the gym for a workout around 10 am. I do have membership at the local YMCA. Once the workout was over and I was showered and fresh again. I would come home and clean my house, I do follow the flylady plan for cleaning adapted to my less spacious more compact house.

Once the house is sparkling. I would take some time to work on social media maybe get a bit a crafting or reading in before I start dinner.  That would be my ideal day up dinner time.

No matter what the two things I do every day is some sort of writing and I always make dinner. Usually started at 4 sharp because Mr. V keeps himself busy with so many things. The way we connect is to cook and eat our dinner together (Mr. V is an awesome sou chef). I know that probably sounds early to most people but he has meetings at the usual dinner time most nights a week so the earlier dinner works well for us.

I’m cleaner while a cook so once dinner is finished there isn’t much to clean up. Mr V heads out to his meetings and I head back to the computer to either do research or writing be entertained. Mostly by concerts or tutorials. I was never much of a TV watcher anyway. A few nights a week I play games friends. Right now we are playing Divinity Original Sin. But I’ve also played a good amount of RPG’s such as Black Desert, Dragon Age and Mass Effect to name few.

What my days really look like (at least at the moment). I drag myself out of bed between 9 and 10 am because the dogs or the cat starts hounding me to get up. Lately Mr. V has been gone in the morning because he’s setting up for hunting season next month. I put the dogs and the cat out. The cat is shady (af) so he can’t be trusted. He has his little harness and runner. Then I fill up my electric kettle for coffee. I started using a french press months ago and will never go back to the coffee pot.

Once I put the water on I head into the bathroom where I placed my clothes the night before and race the kettle to get my face washed and get dressed before I need to pour it. Once the coffee is brewing all creatures come inside and are given their treats for remembering to come home.

Then I head up the steps, coffee in hand to do something with the frizzy mop on my head. My hair is long at the moment so different braids or up-dos are appealing to me. Once all that is finished I sit down to actually do some writing. After that it’s mainly writing and research or whatever is on my top 5 list for the day, till I make dinner at 4. Neither way is terrible but I know from experience that the earlier I get up the more productive I am. My school days taught me as much.

What do you think? Are you a morning person? A night owl?

A productive-in-the-morning-but-not-morning-person? Let me know I’m curious how others live.
