I signed up for two things this month: an Amazon marketing class for authors and a six-month program called Wardrobe Toolbox. It’s been a lot to juggle, but I’ve already learned so much, and that feels rewarding. The Amazon class is only a couple of weeks long, so I’ve been putting more of my energy into that for now.
That said, I realized I took quite a few Craftsy classes last year and even wrote my thoughts on them. As I’m stepping away from book reviews temporarily, I figured turning my notes into a blog post would be a fun idea. It feels like a good way to share what I’ve learned while also giving myself a little breathing room from my usual routine.
Things I’ve learned from the marketing class aren’t new, but I’m trying to look at them with a more open outlook. I wondered if much had been updated since I last read How to Market a Book by Ricardo Fayet. It’s still touted as one of the best books for author marketing. Other books I’ve read or classes I’ve taken are How to Write Copy That Sells. I took copywriting classes from Ash Ambirge around 2011 or 2012, before she released her book, “The Middle Finger Project” (still need to buy that book). I threw myself into women’s mastermind groups and read a ton of self-help and business books, followed Marie Forleo and other women who are making things happen. The biggest difference between me and these women is that they are extroverts. They unapologetically are who they are loudly, while I am that but quietly. Now I look at that information with fresh eyes, taking in what I can do, and pushing aside that which I won’t force myself into.
Wardrobe Toolbox is an ongoing subscription you can pay monthly or for six months at a time. Libby from Truly Myrtle runs the online classes. I’ve been following her for some time. I delved into the Sweater+ fit section immediately, but there are so many things they do. It will take some time to look over the whole site and see what I’m going to do.
That wraps up my summary of classes and learning I’ve been doing this month as I write this on April 16. Happy reading! Happy crafting! Lady V.
