Rating: ★★★★★
Summary:
“The Package” follows the tumultuous life of Julia, who is having a shit day, and her encounter with a handsome, friendly coworker during a comical elevator mishap two days before Christmas.
Strengths:
Although the elevator is the primary setting, the story’s ending location change is a special treat. The story’s ending showcased a beautiful tenderness between the couple that I enjoyed.
Weaknesses:
It can appear a little cheesy and you need to suspend a bit of belief toward the end, but I felt that only added to the charm.
Themes:
There are so many tropes in this one. Grumpy/sunshine, workplace, boss/employee, forced proximity, rich/poor, hidden identity are just the ones from the top of my head. It seems like a lot, and I didn’t think about that specifically until after I started this review. It was a cute, enjoyable read.
Conclusion:
“The Package” offers an intoxicating blend of romance, relatable protagonist, and a HEA that most fans of the genre will devour. With memorable characters, this novel serves as a cute addition to your seasonal reads.
Recommendations:
For readers who enjoy:
– seasonal with strong female leads
– Stories featuring contemporary romance with a few different tropes
– would be a perfect palate cleanser for in between longer books (was only an hour long)
Personal Reflections:
This is a feel-good hallmarkish short story. The Package’s writing is good, and it has some pleasant warmth. Teddy Hamilton and Maxine Mitchell’s superb narration makes this short story a truly outstanding listening experience. If you want to listen for your own enjoyment here is the audible link. https://bit.ly/48GC0eS
