Book Review: Side Trip by Kerry Lonsdale

Exploring Relationships, Love, and Life

Created with Sketch.

Before marrying her partner, Joy needs to do everything on her sister’s bucket list. Dylan is an ambitious thrill seeker trying to live life his own way, but he struggles from the weight of his father’s fame. Their journey takes unexpected turns as their paths cross.

Lonsdale’s blend of romance, humor, and tragedy captivates readers. Her engaging narrative delves into character psyches, revealing authentic insights into their motivations and desires.

“Side Trip” is at its core a tale about family bonds and forgiveness. Lonsdale explores regret, redemption, and the bonds that hold us together through Joy and Dylan’s journey.

This is where it gets a little weird. There are two endings. One jumps ahead ten years, and then you rewind to where you stopped before the jump and move to another ending. I’m not sure why this was done, as it broke the immersion of the story for me. That said, I really enjoyed the book. Joy and Dylan were fun to read. I found that occasionally they stayed in their heads longer than I would have liked, but that’s just my preference.

Would I recommend this book? Yes.
