The month of February has gone by fast even though it’s a leap year. I’ve completed the first draft of a book and started editing. I plan to launch on June 4th.
Another thing I’ve been working on in a more personal vein is my health, new hobbies, and finances. Just before Christmas, I created and have slowly been implementing new habits into my routine. One thing I added to my routine was meditating. I’ve found it to be helpful after I finish what I call my morning work and before I write. It helps me get out of household wife mode and more into author mode.
For those who wonder, my morning work involves daily tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the house.
- Wash after dinner dishes from the night before.
- Start a load of laundry. Fold the previous day’s laundry.
- Swish and swipe the bathroom.
- Prep for dinner (I make double portions, so only cook every other day).
- Exercise (On days I’m not cooking).
- Sundays I also make bread for the week.
- Check the bank accounts and balance my registers.
Once these tasks are complete. I’ll have coffee with Mr. V and our son while giving them their tasks for the day. I know that undoubtedly sounds like I’m domineering, but they explicitly asked me to do it this way. If I left a list by the calendar on the fridge, they would forget to look at it. They do the weekly vacuuming and dusting and also handle the monthly cleaning tasks. Then I work for a few hours before cooking dinner and handling the clean-up and switching the laundry. Once that’s complete, I work for a few more hours. This system has been working well. It gives me time to work uninterrupted for a few hours. I usually work for a couple of hours before my attention wanders, so I find it better to divide that time into two work blocks.

In Fibery news, I haven’t done a ton but I’m happy to be writing again. I had many finished objects last year because I was taking classes and working on rebranding. I miss pumping out so many things, but writing makes me happy too. I finished some cute ornaments for next year and started another pair of boot sock for Mr. V. We’ve planned to go snowshoeing this winter and I need to make a pair for myself too. But considering we’re waiting for enough snow, I’ve not been in a rush to finish. I also tried a new technique in crochet and that is working corner to corner. Since I completed Mr. V’s dresser scarf, I wanted to make one for my dresser using the scraps from his leftover yarn and some other scrap yarn I’ve accumulated.
