Deneve walked around the Valencian market, perusing the wares in leisure. It was a nice reprieve after traveling until a voice stopped her, “Princess Deneve,” a man called to her waving his hand. Deneve had been enjoying the anonymity of being an average albeit strange-looking person (by Valencian standards). But this person calling her princess shattered that image.
She was soon surrounded by a curious crowd, inspecting the woman that Prince Barhan was engaged to. The man grabbed her hand. “This way!” He did look a bit familiar, and as they dodge the crowd, Deneve realized he looked somewhat like Barhan. He was plumper in torso and face, but the resemblance was there.
He took her to a quiet residential alley. “My apologies Princess,” He said, looking around. “I didn’t realize that would cause such a fuss.”
“Oh, I think you did,” Deneve said cunningly, “You wanted to my attention.” She snapped her fingers calling the Skeleton King. “So now you have it. What do you want?”
He looked at the creature fearfully and swallowed hard, “You are actually more formidable than I thought. I am Manmehan Nesser. Barhan is my Uncle.”
Deneve remembered Barhan and Saya mentioning this man. He was obsessed with astronomy. So much so, he didn’t even care to meet his future wife, Ganin Arth. “So, Manmehan, what do you want?” She asked curtly.
“I know Barhan is looking for something that belongs to me,” Manmehan says confidently. “I would just like you to bring it to me instead of him.”
“And pray tell, what is this thing you think I’ve been asked to collect?” Deneve asked, not even trying to hide her annoyance.
“You mean you don’t know of it?” He said, astonished.
“Look, I know nobles like to play noble games, but this is growing old really fast. You think I’d waste my time asking you if I knew?” Deneve claimed her patience with this idiot growing thin. “I was trying to have a relaxing day after getting back from pilgrimage last night, which you have ruined. If you wish to talk to me without manipulating me, feel free to see me at Barhan’s residence after making an appointment.” She snapped her fingers, and the skeleton king disappeared, as did she.
