Princess Deneve? Lord Red supposed it fitted for her. She looked regal in her armor. Black, red, and gold were colors that enhanced her natural beauty.
She stood steadfast beside the child-king. Lord Red still didn’t understand what she gained from helping those weaklings. However, he had to give her credit for standing by her convictions even if they were wrong.
That worm Neruda Shen had lied and then still expected him to come to his rescue. Strange that the same type of loyalty that Deneve freely gave was expected of him from a liar and thief.
He shook his head. He should have just killed the man. Lord Red wasn’t sure why he didn’t just end the miserable man’s existence. He just didn’t feel like it.
Then there was that Prince from Valencia. How was he connected to all of this? Rumor said he was engaged to Deneve. He couldn’t quite fathom that it was a real engagement, even if it was true.
Deneve cared for the young King. That much was obvious. Shen had caused more unrest in Mediah with his assassination attempt on the child king. Deneve probably agreed to such a thing for the young King’s protection. That would be just like her.
Why did it bother him anyway? Lord Red sighed before opening his pack to pull out a bottle of fig wine. His research could wait till morning.
