Here are a few myths that I thought were true. I found out that my “facts” were wrong.
I used to joke that one of my dearest friends had the memory of goldfish. I’m not sure how goldfish got a reputation for having bad memories. This myth has been debunked by studies throughout the years. There is research that shows that goldfish remember much longer than we give them credit for.
George Washington had wooden teeth. Now I was told this from the time I was in elementary school. Our first president did indeed have dentures, but there were actually made from ivory, gold, lead (scary, I know), and even other human teeth. Since ivory can stain over time, it can give the appearance of wood.
Women accused of being witches during the Salem Witch Trials were burned at the stake. This was commonplace in Europe, but during the 17th century in America, most accused witches were hanged or died in jail waiting for their trials.
So what sort of myths did you believe that were found to be false? Please share them in the comments below.
