What makes you think of Spring?
I know it is almost Spring in Maine. Most people think of Spring like this…

But here in Maine, we have five seasons. That is not a typo. There is nothing wrong with my counting. It’s just that after Winter and before Spring, we have another season known as Mud. Ah yes, lovely Mud Season. It can happen anytime from March to June for a least three weeks. This is the time of year I stopped trying to mop floors because it was futile: children, animals, Husbands… the mess.

When everyone lived at home, I was able to keep it confined to the kitchen. Our house had a porcelain tile floor at the time, and a strict take off your shoes at the door order kept the mess contained. I merely swept up every day, and once the land was deemed dry enough outside, I would commence with mopping the floors. There was no way I could clean after every person that came through the door back then. My house was full of kids usually. The day when I finally do move to flee the cold of Winter, I will probably look back on those Mud Days fondly. For now, I would be happy if Mr. V would take his shoes off at the door.
