I have read Dune a few times since I was an angsty teen. With each reading as I’ve matured I found something new. Now I will be the first person to admit that I don’t watch movies. I need to be actively participating in things and I feel that while many others love the idea of being entertained as they chill and Netflix. However back in the day I did watch both versions of Dune and the mini- series Children of Dune. I even had them on VHS ( really showing my age here lol).
That said I’ve watched other books made into moves, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Not the newer one but the cartoon version that came out in 1979. As a child I was enamored with it even though I had read the book.
I would totally read those books again. Would I watch the movies again? Maybe, but most likely not.
Other movies I have watched that were books. Tolkien’s series and the some of the Series of Unfortunate Events and Harry Potter. But by this time my movie viewing had become spotty at best only sitting down to watch a movie when dragged along by caring friends and family. I find movie theaters akin to torture chambers and would have to bring some sort knitting or crochet to cope with my fidgetiness.
Overall I think that most movies try to stick somewhat close to what the book is about. That said in my own personal preference will always be for the books over the movie. I found with my first example Dune that each time I read the book I picked up on subtlety I missed previously and that just doesn’t happen so much with film or TV.
